Sushi is one of the most popular dishes around the world. Its widespread popularity may be due to the fact that it is a healthy, convenient and readily available meal for people in Littleton and around the globe. But there are some other little-known facts, we would like to share with you today.
Good for Your Heart and Health
Sushi is a fresh meal and is by far less processed that many of the other culinary options offered today. Sushi is a dish high in Omega 3, low fat and high in protein, it gives your body more of what it needs. If you are currently on a no carb diet, keep in mind you can always get the no rice version (Sashimi).
What does the term Sushi mean?
Because of Sushi’s popularity, we think that the term Sushi is a term given mainly to the fish. Surprisingly, it is actually the opposite, the term Sushi refers to the rice with rice vinegar mainly.
Why is Ginger served with Sushi?
Ginger has the benefit of cleansing the palate between the courses, so you can better enjoy different varieties without battling with their distinct taste in your mouth. Ginger is also said to have ant-microbial properties (Wasabi too).
Chopstick or No Chopsticks?
Most people today use chopsticks, but Sushi was traditionally eaten with your hands in 1 or 2 bites. It is perfectly acceptable these days to use your hands, what you should try to avoid at all costs is the use of a fork and knife.
Sushi Rolls
Rolls or “Maki” are the most popular type of sushi in the West, and it gets its name from the “Makizu” or mat used to roll them. In Japan Nigiri sushi es preferred.
Soy Sauce
Soy sauce is almost always served with Sushi, with few exceptions. Serve it in a small round dish, and don’t drench the sushi in it. Dip only 1/3 of it and switch side for a safe “arrival” to your palate.
Some Extra Tips for Ultimate Japanese Meal Experience
You may not have thought so, but according to the traditional Japanese manners, wearing strong perfume can detract from the delicate taste of the Sushi. Refrain from spraying too much perfume to fully savor this specialty.
Also, rushing is not part of Japanese culture, and so is with eating, but make sure you enjoy the Sushi as soon as it is served.
